Before Sunrise [Circular Screenplay Book]
A reimagining of Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise screenplay as an 80-page circular book,
translating the film’s themes of time, repetition, and connection into the physical form of the book itself.
The original screenplay was condensed to focus solely on dialogue, reflecting how the film is driven by the evolving conversation between Jesse and Céline. The semicircular pages gradually unfold into a complete circle, while halftone imagery and shifting color move alongside the dialogue throughout the book.
The final book was designed in InDesign, laser printed then all cut and glued by hand. Assembled with an exposed binding and handmade cloth cover. Through its unconventional structure, the project explores how the experience of reading a screenplay can become spatial, tactile, and reflective of the film it represents.
